about

Kids. They grow up, and no matter how much you want to protect them from the world, they kind of go barreling into it anyway. And there can be a feeling of loss in watching the innocence of your baby disappearing. This song is inspired by my own journey as a mother, watching my baby turn into a teen, struggling with her desire for independence in a world that scares me. Maybe you can relate.

lyrics

Chorus
What can you teach me now?
What can you teach me now?
What can you teach me now?
Mother can't reach you now...

Verse
I fled from the world with my babe held tight to me
Fled to the forest, the soil, the sky
Lived in the cabin loved by my mother once upon
A time

I taught her the ways of the forest, of mother
I taught her of danger of the world outside
I held her hand and I read her stories
By the candlelight

Chorus
What can you teach me now?
What can you teach me now?
What can you teach me now?
Mother can't reach you now...

Verse
Each year a new notch etched in the doorframe
Each year more lessons on how to survive
Keeping her safe, far from the line between
Their world and mine

Then came the questions, the longing for something
Then came the restlessness, desire to fly
She longed to know more of the wild world
I'd left behind

There are no more notches on my doorframe
There are no more stories in the candlelight
My baby girl hugged me and stepped into an
Unknown life

Outro
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Where is my baby?
Where is my baby?
My child
Ohhh, my child
Please, come back

about

And Then There Was One Boston, Massachusetts

And Then There Was One is Stevie Caldwell’s solo project, an outlet for a very personal, atmospheric and powerful sound which finds its niche somewhere between genres: it’s rock at its core, flowing from mid-tempo melodic grooves into crunchy angst-ridden alt rock, which she describes as much like her personality. ... more
